Trauma-Informed Care

Bee Psyched is a trauma-informed psychology practice. Our psychologists and administration staff follow the principles of trauma-informed care:

  • Safety – Feeling physically and emotionally safe with us and in our space is a core value of ours
  • Trust – We endeavour to meet our client’s emotional and psychological needs.
  • Choice – We provide choices and options- having informed consent for psychological treatment is important to us
  • Collaboration – We work with our clients towards a common goal
  • Empowerment – Empowering our clients is an essential focus
  • Respect for Diversity – We respect diversity in all its forms

– Adapted from The Blue Knot Foundation

“In trauma-informed services, trauma survivors are seen as unique individuals who have experienced extremely abnormal situations and have managed as best they could.”

– Blue Knot Foundation

At Bee Psyched we are aware that many individuals living with mental health difficulties have also experienced trauma in their lives. And yet, not many psychology practices consciously follow trauma-informed principles in their client care. At Bee Psyched, providing trauma-informed care to our clients is fundamental to what we do; we understand that trust is earned, choice is key to empowerment, and accepting one another’s differences is essential to feeling connected and respected. We know that the client-therapist relationship is essential to treatment effectiveness, positive change, and healing. However, we understand that trust is often hard to come by for people who have experienced trauma, as they may feel unsafe or uncertain in new situations and with new people. So, from the start, we want to do our part to provide our clients and their loved ones with a warm, collaborative, and welcoming space. We also invite you to provide us with the information we need to help you feel as safe as possible to do the challenging and courageous work required to change and heal. Your trauma-informed psychologist will work with you to gradually build and earn trust, slowly introduce new experiences, and take things at your pace.

“Trauma-informed approaches do not involve trying to distinguish ‘symptoms’ from the impact of trauma – they recognise that ‘symptoms’ are often responses to trauma.”

– A person with lived experience of a mental health condition
