“As Bee Psyched prepares to open its doors, I find myself reflecting on how we arrived at this point. My vision for Bee Psyched began after I attended a course about Complex Grief run by Courteney Armstrong. Her wisdom forever changed the way I view psychology and the way I approach treatment. This was the first of many courses that have helped me assist my clients to better understand themselves and guide them towards healing and recovery. It may be strange to say, but as a psychologist, I never fully appreciated how incredible the brain is until that moment. How well our brain is primed to survive and cope- in the midst of horror and terror- is honestly beyond words.
I have heard countless stories from clients who have experienced catastrophic, childhood trauma, who were desperate for assistance but fell through the cracks in a medical system that misunderstood their symptoms and their needs. I have been fortunate to learn so much from them. I am grateful for their courage, openness, and patience in helping me understand what it means to live with complex trauma. They have made me a better psychologist and their feedback has contributed significantly to the vision and practices of Bee Psyched: A Trauma-Informed Practice.
I know that my journey has only just begun; being a psychologist is a career-long process of learning and adapting. The more I understand, the more passionate and determined I have become to create a trauma-informed environment where clients who have experienced any form of trauma can feel safe, supported, and calm enough to find the space to connect and grow. It is my greatest hope that Bee Psyched could be such a place for hundreds of clients one day.
To my incredible clients who have fought and survived against the odds, and for coping the best way you knew how- thank you – thank you for sharing and for being you. Bee Psyched would not have been a trauma-informed practice if not for you. I respect and admire you all so very much. And to all my clients- past and present – it has been a privilege to hear your lived experiences. Thank you for trusting me to be a part of your journey towards recovery.
And to the rest of you, Welcome to Bee Psyched! I look forward to meeting you soon.”
